During the 70’s, electronica was moved forward by German artists such as Kraftwerk,Cluster and Tangerine Dream, and the early 80’s saw UK bands like Depeche Mode,Cabaret Voltaire and The Human League hit the charts with their synthesizers and drum machines.
The 90’s saw the electronic sounds of Chicago house and Detroit techno push the dance culture explosion, while at the same time in the UK, Chill and IDM developed, pioneered by artists such as Autechre,Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin, offering a ‘sit down and listen’ alternative to the dance floor.
Since the 2000’s electronic music has evolved exponentially to become one of the most popular genres of music worldwide, spawning a huge number of sub-genres.
