Flying Nun Records and the Alexander Turnbull Library are delighted to announce that they have partnered with the Alexander Turnbull Library to preserve a huge collection of Flying Nun master tapes, and keep them safe and accessible for future generations.
The record label and many of the recorded artists had become concerned that some of the tapes were at risk of deteriorating, and that the recordings place in history might – figuratively – have ended up with some serious scratches and skipped tracks.
Auckland's Wax Chattels debut eponymous LP will be released on May 18 in partnership with Captured Tracks. Today, the band shared a new single, "In My Mouth" via NPR.
The trio told NPR that the track is their "homage to Auckland's best dive bar." NPR answered back, saying, "If that's the case, this dive bar has been shattered, battered and fried into a post-punk surrender. No survivors, just a fluorescent strip dangling from the ceiling, flickering the remnants of a crazed brawl." NPR further notes "In My Mouth" is "the herky-jerk industrial-punk of Suicide's 'Ghost Rider' whipped into psychotic dance music."Read More
