Amamelia, alongside her record label Sunreturn curated a list of friends and collaborators to rework her acclaimed debut album WOW!. Today she released the second single ahead of the album's release. This is The F In FM Stands For Flute (Eyeliner Wonderland Mix):
When asked about remixing The F In FM Stands For Flute, Eyeliner's Luke Rowell says "I felt like I was bringing up details that were already essentially inside it, of course with a dash of "daytime TV" corny electric piano - as is definitely my nature. The percussive uptempo vibes in Amamelia's original made me think a lot about the early 2010s seapunk era and that's where my repeating bubble pop sound effect comes from. The breakbeats in the original (and the whole WOW! album in general) have a really nice Playstation 1 era / Y2K vibe too but my remix puts it into a kind of mid-80s jazz fusion vibes - especially evident when I tip the hat to jazz fusion violinist Jean Luc Ponty's arpeggios in his banger Individual Choice (1983)."
Amamelia reacts with "Disasteradio (Luke's project before Eyeliner) was one of the first artists in New Zealand I saw making music that was primarily electronic, so having him on board for this remix was really a dream come true. He really changed up the track too, transforming quite a dark minimal skittering thing into a big lush fantasia. Dreamy. And slap bass. Absolutely perfect."
To celebrate the release of WOW! The 2021 Remixes, Amamelia has gathered all of the interested parties to perform at Whammy & Backroom on Saturday May 1st. Get your tickets via Under The Radar.
