With footage recorded by the DARTZ boys on their recent tour across the country, the video is "dedicated to and stars their very own 1989 flamed-up ‘Rolla (license plate: DARTZ)". The video also features a leading role from a remote control version of DARTZ' new ride, painstakingly recreated by Tāmaki Makaurau video genuises [how do you spell that?] Sports Team, who produced and edited the clip.
Viewers can keep their eyes keenly peeled for the backstory behind DARTZ’s
2021 Corolla odyssey - from the boys’ initial concern picking up the 32 year old vehicle, to the day-long flame-painting session, to a dramatic and tense scene played in full where the Corolla was stopped in its tracks on the road to Queenstown.
On the video and song, Danz, the DARTZ creative brain and lead shouter says : “This video is a love story: not just between DARTZ and [their car] Candice, not just between DARTZ and the beautiful country of Aotearoa, but also between the DARTZ boys themselves.
That’s one of our main goals in everything we do: to try capture and share with the world the story of the ever-deepening friendship and love between Crispy, Rollyz, Clark and myself. Whether we’re drinking beers on a sunny day in Wellington City, killing it on stage, or crammed into a tiny death machine hurtling over the Crown Range with smoke billowing from our tires, that love will always come through.”
Made with the support of NZ on Air, the Toyota Corolla video comes just as DARTZ embark on their next nationwide mission: to save summer on a seven-date tour of Aotearoa over the next two weeks, including both a headline show at Whammy Bar in Auckland this Saturday, and an appearance at the Others Way festival on 29 January.
