Girls Rock 2021 is currently happening this week — Monday 18 January to Saturday 23 January 2021 — and has been helping young women, transgender and gender-non-conforming youth (12-17) form bands, build instrumental skills, and write original songs since 2018.
To help raise funds for this wonderful programme, and to support the future of music in Aotearoa, Whammy has enlisted some serious local talent and is holding a fundraiser this Friday, 22nd January. Performing across the night is Te Papaioea emo duo fruit juice parade, Ōtepoti singer and multi-instrumentalist Francisca Griffin of our very own Flying Nun jangle-pop group Look Blue Go Purple, psychedelic fuzz duo Earth Tongue, one of the most exciting pop voices to emerge from Aotearoa THEIA and Tāmaki Makaurau Producer and DJ AW B.
Tickets will be $20 and all proceeds from the evening will be donated to aid the work of Girls Rock! Tāmaki Makaurau. Tickets will be on sale from 12pm, Tuesday 19th January via undertheradar.co.nz
