Today, Independent Music New Zealand (IMNZ) and the NZ Music Commission have announced the comeback of the annual GOING GLOBAL MUSIC SUMMIT - a two-day conference for musicians and industry people alike held at Roundhead Studios with the aim to provide "further education, inspiration and the chance to connect to the global music industry for those ready to take their next step on to the world stage."
Independent Music New Zealand (IMNZ) Chairperson, Pippa Ryan-Kidd adds, “Our aim with Going Global is to help our local artists that are already on their career path and ready to make the next step into international markets. It is the perfect next step after the Going Local sessions we run in the regions each year that focus on artists who are starting out and want to learn about working as an independent and how the local music industry can help them.”
This year's keynote speaker is Grammy Award winning Che Pope, a producer and 25-year veteran of the music industry who has collaborated with legends such as Aretha Franklin, Destiny's Child, Dr. Dre, Whitney Houstoun, Kanye West and more. Aside from Che, IMNZ will be bringing many international experts in the music industry, from publicists to booking agents, to share some valuable knowledge. It is an opportunity for members of the music industry in Aotearoa and beyond to get together, bounce some ideas around, learn from one another, and connect.
Alongside this two day event is the Going Global Presents Showcase where a select group of local artists will perform short sets over one night at some iconic venues in Tāmaki Makaurau, including Whammy!, Wine Cellar and Whammy Backroom. In the past, these performances have been fundamental in the international discovery in some artists, including Aldous Harding and Fazerdaze.
