Featuring an impressive lineup of names on the song and video credits, 'No Good' is a dreamy ballad, swimming in molasses coated synth beds, subdued guitar strums and backing vocals surrounding Louisa's heavenly vibrato-laden voice. The track was produced by Shayne P. Carter (Straitjacket Fits, Dimmer), whom Louisa played guitar for on the recent Dimmer tour across the motu. The track was mixed and engineered by Peter Ruddell (Sulfate, Wax Chattels), whose name has been appearing on production credits of many of our favourite releases for a while now, including Ripship, Dick Move and Jazmine Mary.
And speaking of fellow musician Jazmine Mary, the song is brought to life with a music directed and produced by Jazmine (and made with the support of NZ On Air), featuring Nicklin and bandmates Mason Fairey and Eamon Edmundson-Wells in moody scenes of baptism and pious devotion.
"We worked with Jazmine Mary (Jazmine Phillips) and Courtney Rodgers on the video. I basically just sent them the song and let them run with it without much direction from me." Louisa says. "Jazmine had a dream about a cult and Mason carrying a hay bail, I thought it sounded great so away we went with the idea!"
