Maxine Funke.
Enigmatic Dunedin-based songwriter, Maxine Funke, has shared a new single 'Room In The City' - a gentle, subdued ode to personal space, and finding belonging in the busy midst of metropolis. This is the second, previously unreleased single to be unveiled from her upcoming record Pieces Of Driftwood, a collection of non-album singles, tracks recorded for compilations, and new material, including work with longtime collaborators Alistair Galbraith and P. Wits.
The piece is deeply intimate - so close that you can hear the movement in the room it was recorded in. The simple arrangement is perfectly balanced, not unlike the shaded coos of Vashti Bunyan or Sibylle Baier - just a sweet finger-plucked guitar, flute, and vocals. The song is accompanied by a music video directed by Christopher Schmelz, featuring cosy analogue-treated visuals. A humble, yet wonderful world to dive into - this soon to be available collection is coming on October 7 via Warp Records sub-label Disciples Records. You can pre-order it via the Flying Nun Record Store here.
Funke will also be making a rare appearance this October to perform at The Others Way Festival amongst a fantastic lineup, You can find tickets here via Undertheradar.
