Clot’s inspiration — or, rather, frustration — came from the doomy, gloomy corners of Auckland’s underbelly, and the theme of confrontation is central. With singles like Cede, about an indignant confrontation of Cross-Strait relations and self-determination, and No Ties, a melodic expression about the experience of being a first generation immigrant, Wax Chattels maintain a strong sense of self-awareness while simultaneously producing an intense and impactful album.
