Here at Flying Nun, we love new music - and we're absolutely loving this new track, 'Skipping Stones' from Tāmaki Makaurau-based songwriter and sound artist, ifiwereme - AKA Costa Colachis Glass.
Self-described as a "landlocked sea shanty", 'Skipping Stones' exudes a mellow, jazz-leaning vibe, with Glass' vocal chops getting a work out, flipping between softly-spoken whispers to uncanny shreds, which duet with the sweet voice of San Fransisco-based singer Sue-Ling Kaiser.
The song is accompanied by an eclectic music video directed by Jules Muir and inspired by Arthur Russell’s ‘Terrace of Unintelligibility’ performance and film in 1985.
The single is the first to drop from ifiwereme's upcoming album Water Buffalo, also announced today - an 8 track, entirely live-tracked collection - which will arrive on the 26th January 2023. It is a sweet introduction to the Seattle-raised, Aotearoa-based artist - and we can't wait to hear more.
