Burning Daylight is the debut album by Tāmaki Makaurau-based musician Oliver Birch, entirely self written, produced and performed- an impressive feat considering the layers upon layers of intricacies involved.
Incorporating a range of influences such as Perfume Genius, David Bowie and Phoebe Bridgers, Oliver captures glimpses of these worlds within Burning Daylight's soundscape. The instrumentation incorporates layers of rich brass against more distorted guitars and keys, while his voice sits sweetly in between. It is an experimental pop album; some of these tracks take some unexpected twists that might prompt a more patient listen, but beneath the complex arrangements are very well written songs music upon "existential angst, the gradual erosion of democracy, and isolation".
