Record Store Day is an annual event celebrating the culture of independently owned record stores around the globes. Every year, a slew of interesting Record Store Day releases are announced, and each record store has to close their eyes and cross their hearts that they'll get what they ordered. Then, on the day, customers flock to their local record store, crossing their fingers and toes that they'll have what they're after. And if not, well, it's off to the next one! That's the fun of it.
Over the last couple of years, Record Store Day has been done a little differently for obvious reasons. The limitations surrounding the pandemic almost went against the original rules of the worldwide event and record stores had to adapt pretty quickly. Days that were once thoroughly planned events with musical acts, food, competitions and fun, were no longer allowed.
We are pretty stoked that this year, Record Store Day can go ahead a little more normally on Saturday the 23rd of April. We've heard from a few stores around Aotearoa that will be participating which we will share below, including our very own store in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. I'm sure we'll be hearing from others soon, too.
