Bianca Bailey (AKA Wiri Donna), based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, has been making her mark since her 2 track debut single release, featuring ‘Manuka Money’ and ‘Wandering Willies’.
Now, two years later, after multiple tours and supporting heavy hitters such as The Beths, Mild Orange and Soaked Oats, she is breaking her stride with a larger and emphatic rock sound. Today, she releases a new single, 'No Follow Through'.
Written by Bianca Bailey and co-produced with engineer James Goldsmith, Bailey says the track is about trying to keep up with expectations which proceed you.
“It pays homage to the fact that no one else is really counting on you. People have their own expectations about what you’re capable of, or not capable of, but when push comes to shove, you’re the only one setting those expectations for yourself.”
The NZ on Air funded track is also released with a harmless horror created by Sports Team (Annabel Kean and Callum Devlin) who were ‘thrilled’ to be trusted with making the video for Wiri Donna's gorgeous band debut. “This shoot was a whole lot of fun thanks to the energy brought by Bianca and our two ragdoll stars Alice May Connolly and Ruby Walsh."
‘No Follow Through’ is the first single of the upcoming 6-track EP Being Alone set for release in May 2022.
“‘Being Alone’ is a coming of age record that has been brewing for the past two years. I’d like to think it strikes a balance between eternal optimism and pure devastation, a sentiment that people can either relate or sympathise with.”
