Flying Nun Records Music News — The Bats

The Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū will be hosting a very exciting free-entry music and art event featuring Flying Nun artists new and old including The Bats and Mermaidens.

We asked Gareth Shute to write an article highlighting the ongoing importance of new indie labels in Aotearoa New Zealand. It got him thinking about how the story of a record label is often filled with as much mythology as truth.

This past Saturday we had the second Flying Nun 40th Birthday show at Wellington's Michael Fowler Centre. It was a huge night, with 8 bands and two stages. For this first photo instalment we have Purple Pilgrims, Aldous Harding, Superette and The Bats. All photos by Bruce Mackay.
