For this weeks What Was That Thing? we have Goya who performed their song, Coreflute live at the Flying Nun Records store.
From Te Whanganui a Tara Wellington, Goya smashes you. Hard out. Like too much chilli on your noodles. Good, but it makes your eyes water. Regardless, like The Gordons, the Skeptics or Gang of Four before them, it's solid loud music. Stuff you need.
Goya's abrasive track Coreflute, featured here, is pure angular tight-post-punk-math-rock. A bit like a sledgehammer. We're not even sure what a Coreflute is, but it sounds like some sort of sonic polypropylene. Nasty. But also durable and high quality.
Goya are made up of Lucas Donnell, Jonathan Shirley and Frazer Charlton. In 2021 they released an EP called Being Earnest, which was engineered and mixed by Hans Pucket's Oliver Devlin.
